The long wait for Premier League action to return to our Saturday afternoons is almost over. There is just a few weeks for teams to get their pre-seasons out of the way and also bolster their squads with summer signings.
Over the next couple of weeks we will take a look at all Premier League teams and assess who is going to hit the ground running and who looks like they could be in for a tough season. Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are up next.
Liverpool have managed to bring in a couple of their summer transfer targets so far, but probably more importantly they’ve managed to hold on to some of their key players so far;
Mohamed Salah (Roma)
Dominic Solanke (Chelsea)
Andre Wisdom (Derby County)
Whispers of Coutinho leaving Anfield this season have died down over recent weeks to the delight of Liverpool fans. Klopp will be keen to keep hold of all of his options as his team will have to deal with the busy Premier League schedule alongside European football this season.
Last season Liverpool were off to a flying start and looked a decent outfit to challenge for the title. However, as the schedule became busier The Reds appeared to drop off the title race. The incredibly high tempo Liverpool play at hurt them as the depth in the squad is not as great as some of their opponents. They are likely to continue this style of play in the upcoming campaign and will need to bring in a few fresh faces to cope with the increased fixtures and avoid injuries.
Liverpool did however manage to clinch fourth place last season which was probably their main target at the start of the season. Like most, they will be looking to push on form this and challenge for the title. They are currently priced at 12/1 to lift the Premier League trophy. 12/1 is a slight outsider price, but if they can remain consistent throughout the season they will be up there come May 2018.
