The long wait for Premier League action to return to our Saturday afternoons is almost over. There is just a few weeks for teams to get their pre-seasons out of the way and also bolster their squads with summer signings.
Over the next couple of weeks we will take a look at all Premier League teams and assess who is going to hit the ground running and who looks like they could be in for a tough season. Today we take a look at Arsenal.
Arsenal have been somewhat quiet in the summer transfer market so far. They are not a team that usually splashed the cash, but given the disappointment of finishing outside of the top four last season it would be expected that Wenger is wanting to add to his current squad.
Sead Kolasinac (Schalke)
Alexandre Lacazette (Lyon)
Takuma Asano (Stuttgart) Loan
Chris Willock (Benfica)
Kaylen Hinds (Wolfsburg)
Marc Bola (Bristol Rovers) Loan
Dan Crowley (Willem ll)
Wenger has managed to add to his striking power by bringing in long term target Lacazette. The arrival of the Frenchman has sparked speculation about Olivier Giroud’s future at the Emirates. He is odds on to leave the club and Everton are favourites to get the signature.
Besides bring in new faces, a major job for Arsenal this summer is to not lose any of their bigger players. Without Champions League football, the likes of Alexis Sanchez may be tempted to go elsewhere. Keeping strength in depth is key to Arsenal’s upcoming season. Teams do struggle with the Europa League’s Thursday night fixture. It will be interesting to see how Arsene prioritising cup competitions.
Arsenal are currently slight outsiders to lift the trophy, priced at 12/1. Given that they have failed to do so since 2004, it is no surprise to see them pushed out in the market.
The summer transfer window will be key for Arsenal. Will they be able to bring in more players without the allure of the Champions League? And will they be able to keep ahold of Alexis Sanchez? An interesting one to keep your eye on as we countdown to the start of the season.
